Water, the "gold" of the future
few days ago was held on the water. Global Warming
is generating a serious debate on water scarcity. According to a report from the University of New York, about 80% of the world's population lives in areas with high risk of shortages of this vital resource.
This worrying figure is confirmed by NASA, an organization that also blamed a sharp rise in surface temperature of rivers and lakes in the world, flows whose temperature has been extended two degrees in just 25 years. In northern Chile the situation does not seem to be very different. In mid-2010 has predicted a deficit of close to 40% of snowmelt water from that supply to the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo. To this is added to the water reserves for power generation, irrigation and consumption, showed a decrease of 32% during February, compared to the same month of 2010 - showing the state deficit in the current national water condition. These percentages
put in check
power generation in these areas and, above all, to over U.S. $ 50 billion for mining projects by 2020. The reason is simple, because the energy in the north has high-cost and comes in large part, from sources such as diesel and coal, namely, productions pollutants that increase the carbon footprint, that precisely the mining companies are committed to reducing its processes. face problems water in the world, organizations are facing serious trouble making more sustainable behaviors. For this reason, the Global Compact issued Commitment
Business Guide Responsible
Water Policy, as it offers strategies for companies to convert risks into opportunities by promoting water management approaches that meet the needs of businesses, communities and nature.
