Minera Gaby advances in implementation of ISO 26,000
Baseline is developed by the Link study center at the Catholic University of Valparaiso.
Since 2006, Gaby Mining has been part of the national mirror committee for the creation of the International Standard ISO 26000 on social responsibility in Chile led the National Institute Standards-INN. In this Committee have involved groups of workers, consumers, government, NGOs, research institutes and industry, Minera Gaby part of the latter group.
Considering that ISO 26000 was published in late 2010 and Minera Gaby since its inception has developed various activities in line with the objectives which it considers, such as the inclusion of women, the employment of labor indigenous peoples, the use of technology, and improving the quality of life of workers, among others, the company since March is working on creating a baseline, to reinforce the concept of Social Responsibility from the point of view of ISO 26,000.
The study is developed by the Link Centre for Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, and field has been led by Fernando Parada, general manager of Central Link, who has trained executives, professionals and workers the company, evaluating the current guidelines of the company in light of the seven principles and seven core subjects of social responsibility set out in ISO 26,000. According

ISO 26,000: The Challenge of Social Responsibility
The International Standard ISO 26,000 is the basic guide to what is meant by social responsibility. Is directed to guide organizations in the implementation of values, principles, processes and working practices, in areas as wide as respect for human rights, environmental care and labor issues. ISO
26,000 facilitates the work to consumers and the community, promotes and encourages compliance in organizations (governance) and drives them to act with transparency and ethics in its relations with the environment (fair operating practices).
Among its most important aspects considered to provide a guideline to all organizations, regardless of size or location, to promote socially responsible practices, establish procedures for participation, communication and information with the various interest groups (stakeholders) of an organization, from the delivery of transparent public reports, to developing partnerships between business, civil society and state.
